Genesis 1:1 (NIV) 1In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Acts 14:15b (NIV) 15bWe too are only human, like you. We are bringing you good news, telling you to turn from these worthless things to the living God, who made the heavens and the earth and the sea and everything in them.
Hebrews 11:3 (NIV) 3By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.
“I believe in God, maker of heaven and earth.”
For years, there have been those in science who say Christians believe in a ‘God of the gaps’ not complimentary, but implying that Christians use ‘God’ to explain anything they cannot understand. Ironically the more we learn about science, the more we understand that it is they who use ‘Science of the gaps’ to fill anything they cannot scientifically explain. There is so much more to this concept and I lack sufficient knowledge to fully explain adequately. But I can tell you this:
“I believe in God, maker of heaven and earth.”
Colossians 1:15-17 (NIV) 15The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. 17He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
Revelation 4:11 (NIV) 11You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.
Nehemiah 9:5b-6 (NIV) 5bBlessed be your glorious name, and may it be exalted above all blessing and praise. 6You alone are the LORD. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you.
Romans 1:20 (NIV) 20For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities – his eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made so that people are without excuse.
Psalm 33:6-9 (NIV) 6By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth. 7He gathers the waters of the sea into jars; he puts the deep into storehouses. 8Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the people of the world revere him. 9For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm.
Genesis 1:27 (NIV) 27So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
Isaiah 64:8 (NIV) 8Yet you, LORD, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.
Psalm 19: 1-4 (NIV) 1The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. 2Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. 3They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. 4Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to all the ends of the world.
“I believe in God, maker of heaven and earth.”
Dear Lord God, my Heavenly Father;
I believe in You. I believe in your wisdom you created the heavens and the earth, and all that they contain from the vastness of the universe to the infinitesimally microscopic components of cell structure. I believe creation was never a random occurrence or happy accident – it was designed and ordained for your purposes. I believe that although it is marred and tainted with human sin, you will one day restore it to the glory you intended. Thank you for the work of Your hands, that in your great love and mercy you created mankind and provided all the elements and components to sustain life on earth; but most of all, thank you for the gift of your Son, Jesus Christ, our pathway to salvation.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
