Overwhelming Victory is Ours

Romans 8:31-39 (NIV)  31What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? 33Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. 35Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36As it is written: “For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” 37No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

If your church home is like mine, it seems the prayer needs list grows a little longer each week.  Many of our dear friends and loved ones find themselves in need of God’s strength, comfort, and healing from a variety of short-term and long-term health issues.  Others find themselves struggling to maintain a positive outlook in a world fraught with greed and self-centeredness.

Today’s text poses an interesting question in verse 35;  “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?” How humbly thankful we are to discover the answer in verse 37; “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” And as reemphasized in verse 39; there is nothing that “will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” What a beautiful promise and comfort to know that Christ will be with us strengthening us no matter what challenges or difficulties we face.

Romans 8:37 (NLT) No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.

Gracious Heavenly Father, our LORD God Almighty,

With humbleness of heart, we thank you that nothing will be able to separate us from your love!

In the Name of Jesus Christ, our LORD and Savior, Amen.
