Rededicate 250

Three months ago, at our National Mall, there was a gathering of Americans celebrating the onset of our Nation’s 250th year with an event called “Rededicate 250: A National Jubilee of Prayer, Praise & Thanksgiving”. It has only been three months since that May 17th event, and yet by the looks of our nation, it has been a distant memory at best. Why do I remember it, and why is it the topic of today’s devotion? Because of a statement which has reverberated in my mind ever since that event.

The speaker was Pastor Samuel Rodriguez, the statement was...

“There is a battle in America. The battle is not between the donkey and the elephant; the battle is between the serpent and The Lamb. The Lamb has already won.”

Colossians 2:15 (NIV) And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.

I have never been one to allow politics to influence my devotional writings – until now. Our Nation needs Christians of all political views to stand together in solidarity against the serpent. Even the donkey is sick and not as well as it used to be, for it is becoming invested with the serpent’s worms. We not only need to pray for the elephant, but also for the donkey. Both donkey and elephant together need to remember the Victory of The Lamb.

Revelation 5:11-14 (NIV) Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. In a loud voice they were saying: “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!” Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying: “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!” The four living creatures said, “Amen,” and the elders fell down and worshiped.

Gracious Heavenly Father,

Thank you for the Victory of the Lamb, and for all who recognize our need for salvation. As a Nation, we have fallen short in so many ways. Time and again you give us wake-up calls, for soon – very soon, The Day of Christ’s Return will be at hand. Whether we are donkey or elephant will not matter on that day – only those who follow the Lamb will be saved. Heavenly Father, I ask that you forgive us, and help us get our priorities straight – both as a Nation and as individuals.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
