John 3:16 (NIV) 16For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Romans 5:8 (NIV) 8But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
1 John 4:10, 16, 19 (NIV) 10This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. ... 16And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. ... 19We love because he first loved us.
Ephesians 2:4-5 (NIV) 4But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions – it is by grace you have been saved.
Jeremiah 31:3 (NIV) 3The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.
Among the first Bible verses that children learn is the abbreviated version of 1 John 4:16; God is love. Among the first Bible choruses that children learn is Jesus Loves Me. Most of my readership are in the senior season of life. Do you still believe Jesus loves you with the same passion you believed as a child? Do you still live like Jesus loves you? As we grow older, why is it that our fervency for the Lord grows older with us? I’m not sure I have an answer for this. But I do have a challenge for each of us, myself included: Praise God today for the many ways in which He has shown his love and care for you! Rekindle the passion you had in past years.
I am So Glad that Jesus Loves Me (Philip P. Bliss, 1870)
I am so glad that our Father in heaven tells of His love in the Book He has given: Wonderful things in the bible I see; this is the dearest, that Jesus loves me.
Though I forget Him, and wander away, still He doth love me wherever I stray; back to His dear loving arms do I flee, when I remember that Jesus loves me.
O if there’s only one song I can sing, when in His beauty I see the great King, this shall my song in eternity be, “O what a wonder that Jesus loves me!”
I am so glad that Jesus loves me, Jesus loves me, Jesus loves me. I am so glad that Jesus loves me, Jesus loves even me!
Lord God, our Father;
Sometimes our hearts grow weary with age and the effects of the aging process. But you already know that. You never leave us nor forsake us, and you are as close as our next whispered prayer. Rekindle in us the passion we once had for you and for sharing with others the greatness and mercy of your Love.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
