STRAIGHT Part 2

Write From My Heart

October 7, 2021

STRAIGHT  in order; properly arranged

Proverbs 3:5-6(NIV)  Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (KJV)  Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

A wonderful friend of mine always prefers the KJV of this verse because as she says, we don’t always have perfectly straight roads in our lives; there are always lots of twists and turns (e.g., problems, concerns, worries, etc.). Honestly, I agree with her that NIV tends to be a bit misleading in this regard. However, if we think of straight as being in order; properly arranged then I think it is acceptable to use the word “straight.” My heart tells me that whenever we are facing challenges and difficulties of any sort that no one can get our lives back in order quite like our Heavenly Father. He is the One who directs our paths. He is the One who can take all the pieces of our shattered lives and put them back together. Struggling in our own understanding just isn’t enough to bring peace. Truly if we acknowledge the Lord in everything we think, say, and do…only then will our lives be properly arranged. And I suppose the bottom line is this, no matter what version of the text is used—this is truly a wonderful passage to commit to memory!
