God Can Do All Things

Job 42:2  I know that you can do all things; no purpose of yours can be thwarted.

This week we are visiting Job’s prayer to the LORD (Job 42:1-6) and the first detail we notice is Job’s acknowledgement that God is Almighty. God is the Creator of all things which is mind-boggling in itself…from the vastness of the universe and beyond, to the most miniscule part of an atom…all things have purpose and function and work in harmony that is neither man generated nor random. The human body itself with its miles of vascular system and intricate and complex collection of diverse types of cells—only a tiny sampling of the work of a mighty Creator that in no way could happen accidentally or by random chance. This is the Almighty God who can do all things.

Psalm 24:1-2  The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for he founded it on the seas and established it on the waters.

Psalm 89:11  The heavens are yours, and yours also the earth; you founded the world and all that is in it.

Psalm 90:2  Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.

Psalm 104:24  How many are your works, LORD! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures.

Psalm 139:13  For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

Psalm 147:4-5  He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name. Great is our LORD and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit.

God spoke directly with Job and I cannot imagine how overwhelmed Job must have been when he realized just Who it was conversing with him. God speaks to us today through his written Word and I wonder if we are just as in awe when we realize Whose Word we are reading? The Bible, with its many authors, is still the inspired Word of the same Almighty God, Almighty Creator, who conversed with Job.

Today my heart reaches out to all those who have been misled to believe that all creation exists through accidental means or by random circumstances. Our educational systems have failed us in this regard. Yet responsibility is ours to acknowledge God’s work and His creation with every opportunity given to us. From the arrangement of human cells to the arrangement of solar systems—this is the Almighty God we acknowledge with humble hearts.

Gracious Heavenly Father,

We are bowed in humility at the vastness of your creation. Forgive us in our lack of understanding and acknowledgement of who You are. That you created us and then provided a means for our salvation through your only Son is beyond any words of gratitude we can express. May we be faithful witnesses to you, Almighty God and Creator.

In the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, Amen.
