There is Always Hope

Psalm 71:7-9 (NLT)  My life is an example to many because you have been my strength and protection. That is why I can never stop praising you; I declare your glory all day long. And now, in my old age, don’t set me aside. Don’t abandon me when my strength is failing.

I suppose there comes a time when every writer worries about being repetitive. Those who write novels probably worry that too many of their characters will be similar, story plots will repeat, and reading audiences will lose interest. I admit to having similar thoughts as a devotional writer. Sometimes I question myself: Have I already used this scripture? Have I already covered this topic? Am I just saying the same things over and over?

Then it occurred to me; I do have the same message to proclaim! People do need to hear the news of salvation, peace, comfort, and hope—over and over again! We are living in uncertain times. Our nation is tottering on the brink of losing everything we hold dear—life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness—and it is slipping away at an alarming rate as we replace faith in God for worldly values. How far our nation seems to be slipping away from its once firm belief in God. And the real problem to our plight as a nation is that we as individuals are becoming callous and indifferent to God’s Word, and too accepting and tolerant of the wrong we see around us.

Yet one thing remains certain. God is still the one, true, Almighty God. He has given us the way to forgiveness and salvation through Jesus Christ. God is the source of our strength and our protection. He is the provider of blessed hope! There will always be hope in Him!

Psalm 71:14 (NIV)  But as for me, I will always have hope; I will praise you more and more.

Gracious Heavenly Father,

We complain about the state of our nation, yet the root cause is we as individuals. It is we as individuals who need to repent and return to you. It is we as individuals who need forgiveness from our indifference, tolerance, and of being too comfortable with the status quo. It is we as individuals who need to renew our commitment and resolve to stand firm in your Word. It is we as individuals who need to proclaim your truth over and over again—for all these things we pray.

We thank you for your steadfast love. We thank you for your faithfulness. We thank you for your daily provisions. We thank you for the strength to do what is right. We thank you for hope.

In the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, Amen.
