Matthew
6:5-6 (NIV)
But when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites,
for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to
be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full.
When you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who
is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
I
spend a lot of time writing about positive behaviors, because sometimes I think
I need it more than my readers. I am reminded by scripture, that my private
prayer life has more depth of meaning than any public display ever could. And I
know why this is so. When I am alone with my Heavenly Father, I don’t have to
fix my hair, straighten my scarf, or peek to check the camera angles. When I am
alone with my Heavenly Father, the only thing I’ll ever need to fix is my
heart! And when I am on my knees, it will be in total reverence and respect for
my Heavenly Father alone.
Gracious Heavenly Father,
Men may watch the outside, but
Lord, you alone know our hearts. There is no power in pretending to be pious—there
is no eternal reward. But when we humbly bow before you alone, even with our creaky
knees and broken hearts, you are there. You hear our cry for mercy, and you
respond. In humble gratitude we thank you.
In
Christ’s name we pray, Amen.
Respectfully written and submitted by
Dotty Willmon, Resurrection Christian—looking for the blessed hope of
Christ’s return!
