Morning by Morning

Morning by Morning

Psalm 5:3 (NIV)
Morning by morning, O LORD, you hear my voice; morning by morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation.

This morning I have a cousin in surgery, a friend with family awaiting medical testing results, another friend who waits for news of a friend’s COVID-19 test results, so many people feeling the despair of our nation’s present circumstances, those with feelings of loneliness and isolation, and I await a dentist appointment tomorrow for a broken tooth. It seems like there are so many reasons to bow before the Lord in prayer. Many needs are very serious medical matters while things like my tooth are just minor aggravations. Nevertheless, God stands ready to hear and respond to our prayers no matter the size. God’s mercies never cease. It reminds me of many phrases found in a favorite hymn—“Great Is Thy Faithfulness” (Thomas O. Chisholm, 1923).  Here are just a few of the phrases in this hymn:

…strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow…

…all I have needed Thy hand hath provided…

…pardon for sin and a peace that endureth…

…morning by morning new mercies I see…

...Thy own dear presence to cheer and to guide…

Perhaps it is a little strange to jot down these phrases in random fashion (because I know most of you are singing the song in your mind and trying to put them in order), but I also think it is good to concentrate on each phrase by itself. We have so much for which to be thankful! So many precious promises of God’s love, mercy, and watch-care. No matter what you may be facing this morning, may God’s grace be with you and may he fill your heart and mind with peace. And as I have often said, God is never more than a prayer away.
