God is Near

Acts 17:24-27  The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else. From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us.

Last night my husband and I drove just west of our town and found a quiet spot on a dirt road to view the comet that has been visible in the early evenings hours. Technically, the comet’s official name is  Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS)  That’s for all of you science buffs. But as I watched the skies it occurred to me that my Heavenly Father was present and watching for I truly acknowledge and believe that He is the Creator of all things, and by Him all things hold together.

We build churches in which to worship but I wonder if we somehow think that’s the only place of true worship—a church building. If that is our subconscious thinking, then no wonder the lives we live during the week do not always match the life we live during a one-hour church service. God is not confined to a man made structure on earth, nor does the universe restrict or limit Him in any way; for He created it. He created heaven and earth. He created humans and gave them life, breath, and length of days. The history and boundaries of man marches on according to God’s will. And why would God do all this?

Acts 17:27  God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us.

Isaiah 56:6  Seek the LORD while he may be found; call upon him while he is near.

Perhaps when we come to the realization that God IS, and that He is always near—perhaps then we will allow our worship to go beyond the confines of a one-hour weekly church service—perhaps then we will understand that every moment we have breath of life is an opportunity to worship the Loving God who created us.

Gracious Heavenly Father,

I stand in awe of the beauty of your Creation. Forgive the times I fail to honor you or forget how near you are. Thank you for your mercy and love.

In the name of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior, Amen.
