Remember

Genesis 9:16  Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.

The temptation with this verse is to think that rainbows are God’s method of not forgetting (i.e., overlooking or neglecting either intentionally or unintentionally) about us, his people. However that is not the word used. The word used is remember (i.e., to think of often; call to mind continually) and that is quite different from forgetting. We are never forgotten, we are continually remembered and not just when there are rainbows in the sky.

Deuteronomy 31:6  Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD you God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.

Hebrews 13:5b  …Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.

If we are honest, dear Readers, many of us struggle with forgetting…our keys, the items on our “to do” lists, and frequently failure in forgetting the slights and acts of unkindness done to us. The only thing God ever forgets is our sins when we ask forgiveness. Those He forgives and forgets.

Many of us struggle with remembering…prayer time, Bible time, or in the midst of conflict failure to remember to Whom we belong. God always remembers us and we are always on His mind. It is not He who fails to remember us, it is we who fail to remember Him.

Psalm 25:6-7  Remember, LORD, your great mercy and love, for they are from of old. Do not remember the sins of my youth and my rebellious ways; according to your love remember me, for you, LORD, are good.

Gracious Heavenly Father,

Thank you that you always remember your children. Help us remember we belong to you and that everything we think, say, or do should be a reflection of your love and mercy.

In the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, Amen.
