ESCAPE / STAND

ESCAPE  manage to keep away from

STAND  take a specified position or attitude; remain unchanged

Luke 21:36 (NIV) Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.

Sometimes we read this verse and when coming across the word escape assume it means, “Oh what a relief, I won’t have any problems.” In the previous verses (Luke 21:5-33), Christ had just finished giving a glimpse of the end times to his disciples. The list of trials and tribulations is enough to shake us to our very core. One thing is certain, there will always be trouble in a sinful, self-centered world; and, we will often find ourselves in the midst of it. However, by staying alert to our surroundings and through ever-vigilant prayer, we can manage to keep away from succumbing to evil. Instead, we can adopt the attitude of Christ and remain unchanged by whatever difficulties, challenges, and struggles we face. The key to being able to stand before our Savior and keeping away from evil is prayer. Prayer makes all the difference. Kneeling in prayer enables us to stand strong for Christ.
