EXCELLENCE  superiority

2 Peter 1:3-4 (NLT) By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.

            Both glory and excellence have a variety of connotations, however both words also share the same definition as superiority.

SUPERIORITY  state or condition of being higher in rank or authority; above all else; to the highest degree

            Applying this we understand it is because God reigns supreme over all else that he is able to call us to right-standing with himself. It is because of who God is that he is able to do something so marvelous. Not only did he create us, but he provides a means of salvation for us precisely because he knows our every weakness. Only he—through his glory; excellence; superiority—could provide in advance everything we could possibly need to bring him the honor, glory, and majesty due to his Name.

Ephesians 3:20-21 (NLT)  Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen.
