EXPECTATION

Write From My Heart

September 3, 2021

NOTE:  For the next several devotions, I will be using ideas from a book I just finished reading. Because I strongly believe in placing credit where credit is due, I would encourage you to read the book for yourselves. I purchased the Kindle version from Amazon; it is:

Barnett, Joe. 6 Verses that Can Change Your Life. CrossLink Publishing, 2011.

Although I do not intend to copy anything, I still want to acknowledge that my writings will be heavily influenced by what I have read and what has helped me to grow in my spiritual life.  Thank you, Dr. Barnett.

EXPECTATION  looking forward to

Psalm 5:3 (NIV)  Morning by morning, O LORD, you hear my voice; morning by morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation.

When I was very young, I used to believe and acknowledge God as being present in the past, being present in the present, and being present in the future—but more as if hopping back and forth between those times—sometimes in the past, sometimes in the present, sometimes in the future. At that age, it was hard for me to grasp that where time is concerned, God is all encompassing—in all times, at all times. My understanding has grown to realize that God does not live with minute-by-minute nor event-by-event time constraints that humans have. Furthermore, when God says soon it is vastly different from my understanding of soon.  His soon may occur during my lifetime, or perhaps much later after I am long gone, but it will still be soon. This changes my perspective on waiting for answers. I am confident that God will answer each request I bring to him, but in HIS timing not mine. There is a reassuring peace in looking forward to answers when I know they will come when they are supposed to come, not before, not too late, but just when they are supposed to arrive. It takes the worry and stress out of waiting to know God is in complete control. I do not know when his answers will arrive, but I look forward to their arrival.
