Write From My Heart

September 2, 2021

NOTE:  For the next several devotions, I will be using ideas from a book I just finished reading. Because I strongly believe in placing credit where credit is due, I would encourage you to read the book for yourselves. I purchased the Kindle version from Amazon; it is:

Barnett, Joe. 6 Verses that Can Change Your Life. CrossLink Publishing, 2011.

Although I do not intend to copy anything, I still want to acknowledge that my writings will be heavily influenced by what I have read and what has helped me to grow in my spiritual life.  Thank you, Dr. Barnett.

TRUST firm belief and confidence in the honesty, reliability, etc. of some person or thing

Psalm 91:2 (NIV)  I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.

It occurs to me that it is quite easy to claim that I trust the Lord. Although sometimes I wonder if I really capture the depth and scope of just exactly what that means. It means I grasp that I do not have the ability to see beyond my present moment, but God does. It means I do not always connect-the-dots or see how all the pieces of the puzzle fit together, but God does. It means that I do not always have—and sometimes seldom have—answers and solutions, but God always does. It means even the things I would normally condemn and criticize can be turned around, flipped around, and used for God’s purposes in ways I might never imagine possible (e.g., Rahab, woman at the well, Hosea, Jonah, Paul—just to name a few). It means I don’t always know what I’m doing, but God does know what he is doing. It means I don’t always know what is best, but God does. Most of all, it means that I have complete and total confidence in HIS honesty and reliability.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT) Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
