A Glimpse of God's Plan

Dear Readers,

Welcome to Week 3 of our 6-week slow stroll through the events leading up to the birth of Christ and the few days following. We will not cover every aspect of the Advent Story, but rather we will take time to read carefully and perhaps notice a few new things along the way. Our goal is deep thought, reflection, and introspection of our lives as a result of the wondrous birth of our Lord.

Each day we will look at only a few verses, or some days only a single verse. Notice the Who? What? Where? When? and How? that might apply to each passage. You might ask yourself why the text was important then? and why it is important now? My commentary will be noticeably brief; the goal, as noted above, is personal thought, reflection and introspection. Blessings to you as we journey through the Advent Season together.

Week 3/Day 2, Tuesday

Luke 2:3-4  And everyone went to their own town to register. So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David.

Yesterday we saw God’s providence revealed through the edict of a government census. Today we catch a glimpse of the clues of God’s plan for a Savior provided from authors some 750  years prior to the birth of Christ:

Isaiah 9:1b  In the past he humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the future he will honor Galilee of the nations, by the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordon—

Micah 5:2  But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.

God’s plan for a Savior from Nazareth of Galilee unfolds as a young couple travels  by government edict in time for the birth of a child—God’s Son; our Savior—to take place in Bethlehem. From this plan, and its clues provided so many years prior, we learn something about God’s omniscience, omnipresence, and omnipotence. We can find true comfort and strength in trusting the God who knows all, is all, and is all powerful. Furthermore, knowing this same God is our God, how can we help but trust his timing and plan for our lives?

Prayer Suggestion:  Thank God for his presence in your life today. Trust his timing and plan for your future.
