Dear Readers,
Welcome to Week 3 of our 6-week slow stroll through the events leading up to the birth of Christ and the few days following. We will not cover every aspect of the Advent Story, but rather we will take time to read carefully and perhaps notice a few new things along the way. Our goal is deep thought, reflection, and introspection of our lives as a result of the wondrous birth of our Lord.
Each day we will look at only a few verses, or some days only a single verse. Notice the Who? What? Where? When? and How? that might apply to each passage. You might ask yourself why the text was important then? and why it is important now? My commentary will be noticeably brief; the goal, as noted above, is personal thought, reflection and introspection. Blessings to you as we journey through the Advent Season together.
Week 3/Day 3, Wednesday
Luke 2:5 He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child.
There is nothing remarkable about Joseph taking his future bride with him to register in the census. What is remarkable (i.e., noteworthy, unusual, extraordinary) is that Mary is already expecting a child. How could this be? It was through God’s Sovereign Providence. And both Joseph and Mary willingly accepted God’s plan for their family. This does not mean to imply that Joseph and Mary understood it all; but they trusted the God who did. We may not understand events in circumstances in our lives; but we can trust the God who does. Trust the wisdom of God.
Prayer Suggestion: Thank God for his presence in your life. When you do not understand, trust the wisdom of God.
