Dear Readers,
For the next six weeks we will embark on a slow stroll through the events leading up to the birth of Christ and the few days following. We will not cover every aspect of the Advent Story, but rather we will take time to read carefully and perhaps notice a few new things along the way. Our goal is deep thought, reflection, and introspection of our lives as a result of the wondrous birth of our Lord.
Each day we will look at only a few verses, or some days only a single verse. Notice the Who? What? Where? When? and How? that might apply to each passage. You might ask yourself why the text was important then? and why it is important now? My commentary will be noticeably brief; the goal, as noted above, is personal thought, reflection and introspection. Blessings to you as we journey through the Advent Season together.
Week 1/Day 4, Thursday
Luke 1:16-17 He will bring back many of the people of Israel to the Lord their God. And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the parents to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous—to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.
We first notice John’s job description; to bring people back to faith in the Lord God. To prepare the way before the Lord Jesus Christ by announcing his coming. To turn hearts from disobedience to the wisdom of righteousness. To prepare people for the Lord’s coming.
Today, we must ask ourselves, are we prepared? Are we ready for the Lord’s return?
Prayer Suggestion: Thank God for those who have prepared the way for you to know Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. Pray for opportunities to prepare others to know Christ and to be ready for his return.
