God's Word - Our Spiritual Nutrition

Write From My Heart / January 4, 2021 / God’s Word – Our Spiritual Nutrition

Luke 21:33 (NIV) Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

Isaiah 40:8 (NIV) The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever.

Have you ever heard the term click bait? If you are a frequent user of any type of social media then perhaps you have unknowingly participated in click bait. This is any type of post that throws out an enticing or irresistible question or thought just to get you to respond in some way. Make no mistake, your responses will be counted and analyzed—usually NOT by the people with whom you would like to associate, nor the people you THINK posted the bait. Having said all that, I saw some click bait the other day on Facebook regarding favorite books. No one mentioned the Bible, and believe me, it was very hard at that point for me to resist adding to the bait.

The Bible is the one true source of God’s Word. God’s Word never changes. What he said and meant has been consistent through the test of all time. We can rely on the promises and consequences included in Scripture today, and people will still be able to do so for whatever time the future may hold. Yet why is there still a hesitation to spend daily time in God’s Word? Is it because the book is too big? Is it too heavy? Do you not have enough time? Is it too hard to understand? I’m sure we can make plenty of excuses; excuses come fairly easily. Here are some interesting quotes that might help encourage you:

A Bible that is falling apart usually belongs to someone who isn’t.  ~~Charles Spurgeon

The Bible is meant to be the bread of life, not just cake for special occasions.  ~~source unknown

Don’t say God has been silent when your Bible has been closed.  ~~source unknown

The point is, God’s Word is our source of strength, comfort, and conviction. We need God’s Word each day just as much as daily nutrition because it is our daily spiritual nutrition. In the bleakest of times or the best of times, God’s Word keeps us grounded.

Gracious Heavenly Father,

Forgive us for neglecting your Word. Your Word is true and your Word is everlasting. By your Word we find strength, comfort, and conviction. Thank you for your love and mercy.

In the name of Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior, Amen.
