When Life Doesn't Seem Fair

Write From My Heart / January 21, 2021 / When Life Doesn’t Seem Fair

Job 21:7-9, 16 (NIV) Why do the wicked live on, growing old and increasing in power? They see their children established around them, their offspring before their eyes. Their homes are safe and free from fear; the rod of God is not upon them. … But their prosperity is not in their own hands, so I stand aloof from the counsel of the wicked.

Sometimes it is a difficult thing to watch some of the leaders in our nation growing richer through greed and promoting themselves. Sometimes it seems the rules the rest of us have to follow just don't apply to the rich and famous. Sometimes it just doesn’t seem fair. For Job, he had lost his home, his standing in the community, his livestock which counted in the thousands, and all ten of his children. How difficult it must have been to watch the prosperity of those around him when his own life had been so devastated. Yet Job understood that although it seemed the wicked prospered, their prosperity consisted only of earthly things and those things are temporary.

Proverbs 11:21 (NIV) Be sure of this: The wicked will not go unpunished, but those who are righteous will go free.

My heart tells me it is a matter of focus. Politicians, leaders, governments, and nations may prosper by their avarice and greed—but my focus should be contentment with the blessings from God. I have so much for which to be thankful, truly thankful. God will handle the rest.

Philippians 4:19 (NIV) And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.

James 1:17-18 (NIV) Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.

We are indeed a blessed people. And the greatest of all blessings is to be a part of God’s Kingdom; to participate in the Second Coming; to share with Christ through all eternity. What more could we ask?

Gracious Heavenly Father,

To be forgiven by you is the greatest gift we could ever have. Thank you for the gift of salvation through your Son. Keep our focus on things that matter most to you.

In the name of Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior, Amen.
