STRENGTH

Write From My Heart

STRENGTH state or quality of being strong; durability; power to produce action

Judges 6:14 and 16 (NIV) The LORD turned to him and said, “Go in the strength you have…Am I not sending you?  … The LORD answered, “I will be with you…”

Ponder this: The story of Gideon (Judges 6 & 7) is a reminder that God often chooses the unlikely to do his work. The Lord finds Gideon threshing wheat—not on the threshing floor but hiding in a winepress to avoid the oppression of the Midianites (6:11). Gideon reminds the Lord of his inadequacies—he is the least in his family, his family the lowest in the clan, the clan the weakest of the tribe of Manasseh (v 15), and don’t forget that Ephraim and Manasseh were considered half-tribes representing Joseph [there was no “tribe of Joseph”] (Numbers 1:10). So what is the point? The point is simply that as we grow older and consider ourselves feebler and frailer than we would like to be, we still have enough strength to be useful to God. It doesn’t take much strength to pray, to send a card, call a friend, to smile, or to be kind. I’m fairly certain God knows just how much strength each of us has and if he provides you with opportunities to encourage others or to serve him in any other way—go in the strength you have.
