Great Is Thy Faithfulness

Lamentations 3:21-23  Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

Psalm 33:4  For the word of the LORD is right and true; he is faithful in all he does.

Psalm 40:10b  …I will speak of your faithfulness and your saving help.

Psalm 145:13b  The LORD is trustworthy in all he promises and faithful in all he does.

 

            What hope and encouragement comes to us through the scriptures. No matter what difficulties we face, no matter what season of life or seasons of the year, no matter how weak or discouraged we feel—yet there is hope, there is always hope. God’s faithfulness can be a very real presence in our lives.

            Today’s hymn comes from Advent Christian Hymnal, ACGC, 1952. My prayer for you is that the words of scripture and the words of this hymn will encourage you today.

“Great is Thy faithfulness,” O God my Father, There is no shadow of turning with Thee;

Thou changest not, Thy compassions they fail not, As Thou has been Thou forever wilt be.

 

Summer and winter, and springtime and harvest, Sun moon and stars in their courses above,

Join with all nature in manifold witness, To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.

 

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth, Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;

Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow, Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

 

Great is Thy Faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness! Morning by morning new mercies I see;

All I have needed Thy hand hath provided, Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

 

Gracious Heavenly Father,

            We come to you with our burdens and cares, our worries and stresses, knowing that you are a Faithful God, a Loving God, a Caring God. You shower us with mercies new and fresh each morning. Thank you precious Lord for the promises we read in your Word and for the lives of the hymn writers who remind us to trust in You.

            In the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, Amen.
