There Is A Reason

Proverbs 16:9  In their hearts humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps.

Ecclesiastes 11:5  As you do not know the path of the wind, or how the body is formed in a mother’s womb, so you cannot understand the work of God, the Maker of all things.

Psalm 139:16b  …all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.

Humans are very linear creatures. We live moment by moment, hour by hour, day by day, year by year, and so it goes. Our calendars are full, and for some folk, daily schedules are booked to capacity. And yet, every once in a while we pause to question; What is my purpose? What should my priorities be? Why am I here (not just on planet Earth, but HERE, here, at this specific location)? What am I supposed to be doing?

There are several biblical examples of people being placed at a specific location for a specific purpose, but I am particularly drawn to two: Joseph and Esther.

Genesis 45:8 (Joseph to his brothers)  So then, it was not you who sent me here, but God.

Esther 4:14b (Mordecai to Esther)  And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?

As Christians, we believe the LORD God Almighty is omniscient (i.e., all-knowing). If we sincerely believe and trust in that statement, then we acknowledge God knows who we are, where we are, and what we are doing at all times. There is no place we are hidden from His sight. Yet it is so much more than this. God has a plan for our lives. His plan for us was in place even before we became a living person. He has given to us the physical qualities, traits, temperament, skills, and abilities to be useful to Him in the precise location we now find ourselves; exactly where our Heavenly Father has placed us. Are we perfect? No. But God’s plan is.

Dear friends, I’m not sure how busy your calendar looks—whether it is full or vacant. However, I urge you to take time today to ask your Heavenly Father to prepare you for what He has in store for you to do. You are here for a purpose; there is a reason—to serve your Heavenly Father—perhaps in ways you have not yet discovered. You are the only YOU He created. He has a plan for YOU to fulfill.

Gracious Heavenly Father,

Thank you for creating us and placing us where we are most needed by You. Guide us and direct us. Show us what you would have us accomplish for the honor and glory of Your Name. Prepare us for what you have in store for us to do. Then fill us with the grace and courage to complete whatever you ask of us.

In the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, Amen.
