We've a Story to Tell to the Nations

Acts 10:34-36  Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right. You know the message God sent to the people of Israel, announcing the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all.”

Psalm 22:27-28, 30-31  All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD, and all the families of the nations will bow down before him, for dominion belongs to the LORD and he rules over the nations. …future generations will be told about the LORD. They will proclaim his righteousness, declaring to a people yet unborn: He has done it!

Psalm 71:18  Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, my God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your mighty acts to all who are to come.

Before the creation of the world God planned to include human life as part of that creation. Yet even then God, our Heavenly Father, knew humans would need a Savior; and that the only One pure and holy enough to be that blameless sacrifice was God the Son, Jesus Christ. It would be Jesus who would come as a human, suffer, die, be buried, yet rise again and ascend to the heavens to once again sit at the right hand of his Father. Humans would not be abandoned, but would have a new Comforter and Guide, the Holy Spirit of God, to dwell within all those who would call upon the Name of the Lord as their Savior. One day, Christ will return to claim his faithful ones as his own.

This is wonderful news, Good News, the Gospel Story! It is the same story we are to tell to all the world. The story of truth, mercy, peace, and light.

Today’s hymn comes from the Advent Christian Hymnal, ACGC Publishers, 1952.

We’ve a Story to Tell to the Nations (#348), Colin Sterne

We’ve a story to tell to the nations That shall turn their hearts to the right,

A story of truth and mercy, A story of peace and light, A story of peace and light.

We’ve a song to be sung to the nations, That shall lift their hearts to the Lord,

A song that shall conquer evil, And shatter the spear and sword, And shatter the spear and sword.

We’ve a message to give to the nations, That the Lord who reigneth above,

Hath sent us His Son to save us, And show us that God is love, And show us that God is love.

We’ve a Saviour to show to the nations, Who the path of sorrow hath trod,

That all of the world’s great peoples, Might come to the truth of God, Might come to the truth of God.

For the darkness shall turn to dawning, And the dawning to noon-day bright,

And Christ’s great kingdom shall come to earth, The kingdom of love and light.

Gracious Heavenly Father,

What a wonderful story you have given us. A story of life, hope, mercy, peace and light. Forgive us for our failure to proclaim this Good News to all who need Your message of hope. Grant us the courage to tell others about our new life in Christ.

In the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, Amen.
