The Only YOU There Is

Example #1

Judges 6:14  The LORD turned to him and said, “Go in the strength you have…”

Example #2

1 Samuel 22:2  All those who were in distress or in debt or discontented gathered around him, and he became their commander. About four hundred men were with him.

Example #3

Revelation 3:8b I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.

            At first glance, these three examples may seem totally unrelated. For background, Example #1 is the calling of Gideon into active service, and you might remember that at the time Gideon had been found hiding in the bottom of a wine press threshing wheat in order to escape the Midianites. Example #2 is the calling into service of a rag-tag band of men who became King David’s mighty warriors. And Example #3 tells of the faithfulness of a tiny church in Philadelphia who faithfully served God despite their horrific adverse circumstances.

            While these stories may seem unrelated, they all describe amazing ways God uses the most unlikely of people to serve Him. This, quite simply, is our thought for today. We may not feel confident or see in ourselves how God could possibly use us in service, yet I assure you that God has blessed you with unique talents, abilities, temperament, and other qualities to be of service for His Kingdom—right where He has placed you today. Opportunities are waiting for you to notice and respond. God has prepared you in a unique way, and He will guide you every step of the way. You are the only YOU there is, and He has created YOU for a reason.

 

Gracious Heavenly Father,

            At times we lack confidence in the abilities you have given us. Forgive the times we shut down or withdraw and forgive the times we are oblivious to the opportunities you present. Give us the courage and confidence to be your servants in whatever tasks you lead us, whether they be great or small. Let us be willing workers and encouragers for others.

            In the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, Amen.
