Quiet Contemplation - Day 61

07-25-2020 Holding Fast

Deuteronomy 13:4 (NIV)
It is the LORD your God you must follow, and him you must revere. Keep his commands and obey him; serve him and hold fast to him.

In this time when everything seems so topsy-turvy, one thing remains constant forever. The Lord our God is always closer than just a prayer away. He is our guide and he is our strength; he can lead us if we will only ask. Following his commands are not burdensome, they bring peace. Obeying him is not a chore, it is a pleasure. The only thing secure enough to hold you fast through any situation you may face is your Heavenly Father. Trust him now!

Gracious Heavenly Father,
Forgive our weaknesses. We trust you alone for strength, security, and peace during uncertain times. Thank you for your mercy and forgiveness.
In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.

Quiet Contemplation - Day 60

Psalm 148:7-10, 13 (NIV)
Praise the LORD from the earth, you great sea creatures and all ocean depths, lightning and hail, snow and clouds, stormy winds that do his bidding, you mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars, wild animals and all cattle, small creatures and flying birds…Let them praise the name of the LORD, for his name alone is exalted; his splendor is above the earth and the heavens.

Today, in your contemplation, take time to thank God for all his creation. Notice the beauty around you whether in the form of weather patterns or plants and animals. Our great and wonderful God created it all and maintains it by his word. Rejoice and give thanks to God!

Gracious Heavenly Father,
All too often we get consumed by the business of our day or the worries of the day and it causes us to lose sight of your majesty. Today, we simply pause where we are to thank you for the splendor of your creation. Praise the LORD!
In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.

Quiet Contemplation - Day 59

Job 38:1, 31-33 (NIV)
Then the LORD answered Job out of the storm. He said: … “Can you bind the beautiful Pleiades? Can you loose the cords of Orion? Can you bring forth the constellations in their seasons or lead out the Bear with its cubs? Do you know the laws of the heavens? Can you set up God’s dominion over the earth?”

Psalm 19:1-2 (NIV)
The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge.

Last night was an amazing night! My husband and I drove just north of our town to a place with open land in all directions. There we watched as the last scattered remnants of clouds disappeared revealing the most wondrous starry skies. It was truly an amazing site to see. We found the comet Neowise with its prominent tail. With binoculars you could almost catch glimpses of its icy blue color and split tail. And I am always in awe of the ability to live on a planet at the edge of a galaxy, and still be able to see the galaxy’s core. The arching Milky Way above us was spectacular.
Today my thoughts are short and simple. As I contemplate the wonder of God’s creation, my heart is full of praise! One cannot view the splendor of starry skies and doubt the existence of God—for no random acts or series of happy accidents could create and maintain such a splendor.

Gracious Heavenly Father
Thank you for allowing us to catch a glimpse of your omnipotence. We humbly stand in awe of your creation. Forgive our failings, weaknesses, and shortcomings as we look to you—our Creator and God.
In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.
