Quiet Contemplation - Day 51

Psalm 51:10 (NIV)
Create in me a pure heart O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

Psalm 86:5 (NIV)
You are kind and forgiving, O Lord, abounding in love to all who call to you.

The Bible tells us that David was a man after God’s own heart, and yet we know his life was not a perfect one. The difference was that David was willing to admit his mistakes, faults, and failures—calling upon God to set his heart aright. I think the scripture selections today need little by way of explanation. It is enough to say that God loves all those who call to him. God is kind and forgiving. He will take our sinful broken heart, but he wants us to bring him all the pieces and parts of it. When we yield to him, we must yield everything. Then he can lovingly create a new heart within us and renew our resolve to be his faithful people.

Gracious Heavenly Father,
We come to you with our mistakes, faults, and failures. We yield our broken hearts with all the fragments and shards to you. Create a pure heart with us and find us faithful to you.
In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.
