Quiet Contemplation - Day 46

Psalm 5:11-12 (NIV)
But let all who take refuge in you be glad, let them ever sing for joy. Spread your protection over them, that those who love your name many rejoice in you. For surely, O LORD, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield.

I suppose I’ve developed some fairly peculiar habits when it comes to opening curtains in my home. Specifically, if I know the heat is particularly intense, I will leave curtains closed or partially closed to help reduce heat in the home. Likewise, on a chilly day, I might open up curtains fully to add whatever ambient heat I can. Now, I realize this doesn’t in any way affect the temperature outside the home—it is what it is. The object is to minimize stress on the heating/cooling system and help reduce costs, or at least that is my intention.
You might wonder where I am going with this thought, but it occurs to me that the Lord’s protection is similar in some ways. It isn’t a guarantee of a trouble-free, problem-free, stress-free life in this world—that will not occur until Christ returns to make all things new. But the Lord’s protection is a promise of hope and peace that covers us during times of any type of difficulty. The problem is often still out there surrounding us, but we are protected with the hope of a bright and glorious future, and we are covered with a peace that provides comfort and strength. And that, my friends, is our reason to be glad and sing for joy!

Gracious Heavenly Father,
In this world we will have strife, but you have overcome the world! We cling to your promise of peace and comfort during times of difficulty (pain, stress, aging, fatigue, health, financial, or whatever it be). We know that in all things, if we trust in you, you are there. Because of this, we sing praises to you.
In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.

Respectfully written and submitted by
Dotty Willmon, Resurrection Christian—looking for the blessed hope of Christ’s return!
