Job 38:1, 31-33 (NIV)
Then the LORD answered Job out of the storm. He said: … “Can you bind
the beautiful Pleiades? Can you loose the cords of Orion? Can you bring forth
the constellations in their seasons or lead out the Bear with its cubs? Do you
know the laws of the heavens? Can you set up God’s dominion over the earth?”
Psalm 19:1-2 (NIV)
The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of
his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display
knowledge.
Last night was an
amazing night! My husband and I drove just north of our town to a place with
open land in all directions. There we watched as the last scattered remnants of
clouds disappeared revealing the most wondrous starry skies. It was truly an
amazing site to see. We found the comet Neowise with its prominent tail. With
binoculars you could almost catch glimpses of its icy blue color and split
tail. And I am always in awe of the ability to live on a planet at the edge of
a galaxy, and still be able to see the galaxy’s core. The arching Milky Way
above us was spectacular.
Today my thoughts are
short and simple. As I contemplate the wonder of God’s creation, my heart is
full of praise! One cannot view the splendor of starry skies and doubt the existence
of God—for no random acts or series of happy accidents could create and
maintain such a splendor.
Gracious Heavenly Father
Thank you for allowing
us to catch a glimpse of your omnipotence. We humbly stand in awe of your
creation. Forgive our failings, weaknesses, and shortcomings as we look to you—our
Creator and God.
In Christ’s name we
pray, Amen.
