Quiet Contemplation - Day 52

Romans 8:28 (NIV)
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Romans 8:28 (NLT)
And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

I’m a little late posting today, and one of the reasons is that already this morning I have been receiving so many prayer requests. Serious, devastating health issues, another was a finance related request, also friends in need of comfort and encouragement—so many of God’s people hurting in so many ways. I am thankful to be able to pray for these needs. I cannot do much, but I can certainly pray!
Today’s scripture is one that is often misunderstood. God does not promise a perfect life. He doesn’t promise we will never have to face tough or bad situations. But he does promise to be with us and that all things eventually work according to his good plan for our lives. Admittedly, that’s sometimes hard to accept when standing in the midst of difficulties, often serious life and death issues, but God is with us even in those dark times.
I think perhaps the worst temptation sneaks in when all is going well. That is when we tend to let our prayer life slide just a bit. We tend to forget the needs of others—sort of out-of-sight-out-of-mind. Perhaps now more than ever, God is calling us to strengthen our prayer lives. We certainly have plenty of opportunities to do so. Think of our nation, our leaders, our friends and loved ones. I can assure you we have plenty about which to pray.
Finally, enlist the help of others. I am part of a small ladies group, only about 12 of us, but together we become a pretty wonderful prayer team. We used to meet in person, now separated by miles and restrictions we meet by text, but the point is—we pray for the needs of others. Remember, God is not limited by social distance, miles, or time. He hears our prayers, each and every one of them.

Gracious Heavenly Father,
Thank you for your wonderful promise to be with us even in the darkest of times. It’s too easy for us to lose sight of your good plan for our lives and to lose hope. Forgive us when we falter. Thank you for those whom you send in our lives to support us with prayers. Remind us when all is well to be thankful, but to also pray for others in need.
In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.

Respectfully written and submitted by
Dotty Willmon, Resurrection Christian—looking for the blessed hope of Christ’s return!
