Psalm 29:1-2 (NIV)
Ascribe to the LORD, O mighty ones, ascribe to the LORD glory and
strength. Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; worship the LORD in the
splendor of his holiness.
How often have you
heard the word ascribe used? Is it part of your everyday vocabulary? Probably
not. If someone asked you for a definition would you be able to respond? Well,
I thought I had a good idea of what it meant but I decided to check out several
various sources for meaning. What I found was quite interesting.
When you ascribe to
something or someone, you believe it is caused by, comes from, or is directly
associated with that thing or person. In
other words, to ascribe to the LORD glory and strength is the act of believing
that glory and strength is caused by the LORD, it comes from the LORD, and it
is directly associated with the LORD. Glory is not ours; it is his! Strength is
not ours; it is his!
Today is the Lord’s Day,
and whether we gather together in person or online, let us “Ascribe to the LORD
the glory due his name; worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness.”
Gracious Heavenly Father,
Thank you for the
blessings you provide so abundantly. We give to you all the praise, honor, and
glory. We understand our strength comes from you for you are the source of
strength itself. We thank you in all things and we worship you.
In Christ’s name we
pray, Amen.
Respectfully written and submitted by
Dotty Willmon, Resurrection Christian—looking for the blessed hope of
Christ’s return!
