Audits & Resolutions - Day 21

Write From My Heart / December 21, 2020 / Audits & Resolutions – Day 21

Question: Do I only count my blessings in November?

Psalm 95:2 (NIV) Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song.

Psalm 100:4 (NIV) Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NLT) Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.

It is so easy to be full of thanksgiving during November because, after all, that’s the focus of Thanksgiving itself. Why does our focus shift so suddenly on the day after Thanksgiving? Is it the change of worldly focus to that of Christmas gift-giving and receiving, holiday sales, decorations? Perhaps we are still thankful, but just too busy to focus on specific  blessings…besides, we just finished doing that in November.

Thanking God for who he is and what he has done for us through his love, grace, and mercy should be the daily focus of our lives. “Count your blessings” should be the theme of our daily activities. Laundry…count your blessings for the provision of clothing. Cooking…count your blessings for the provision of food. Housework…count your blessings for a warm home. Sunsets, sunrises, blue jays, music, and children…all reasons to count your blessings for vision and hearing. I’m sure by now you understand the message I am trying to convey. Take time—make time—to notice your blessings every day.

Resolution: Be thankful.

Gracious Heavenly Father,

You indeed are gracious to us Lord, far more than we could ever say. Forgive our haste in rushing through the day without taking time to recognize all you have done for us. May we be a thankful people every day in all circumstances.

In the name of Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior, Amen.
