Now in my seventh year of retirement I am only recently realizing how prone teachers and writers are to saving things, because after all, they might be useful sometime. Anyone who has had to go through the process of cleaning the home for a friend or loved one who moves or is no longer living knows the mental stress inadvertently caused by the accumulation of things. It’s time for me to change. It’s time for me to let go of accumulated things.
So far, I’ve only been referencing tangible things. Clutter. Stuff. Unused items. Items that haven’t seen the light of day in many years. In order to fix this problem we need willingness and
motivation to get the job done.
What about the intangible things we collect? Disappointments. Unfounded fears. Hurts. Guilt. Shame. Inconveniences. Broken relationships. Broken promises. Angry words. In order to fix this problem we need our Bible.
Lamentations 3:21-23 Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the LORD’s great love [KJV mercies] we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
Allow today to be a fresh start toward clearing away tangible items no longer useful or needed. Begin your decluttering adventures today!
Most importantly, allow today to be a New Beginning in your heart. Take time to give to your Heavenly Father all the intangible clutter that lurks inside your mind and rely on His mercy and compassions that will never fail.
Gracious Heavenly Father,
How humbly thankful we are for your mercy and compassion. Take away the intangible clutter that obstructs our life in Christ. May we be found faithful in your sight.
In the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, Amen.
