Peace of Mind

Matthew 6:27 and 34  Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?    Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

When I look at this text I often consider the futility of needless worry over current things which I cannot control. That is definitely one sense of worry –concern over little irritating things each day. But for many people, there is another type of worry that occurs in one’s mind.

How much time during each day do we allow the wrong things of the past to consume our thoughts? Do we live and re-live moments wondering all the what ifs and possible outcomes? This type of worry is definitely not a healthy form of worry. While the words, “let it go,” seem kinder and more compassionate than, “get over it,” both carry the same message: Let the past stay in the past. Move forward. God is fully aware of the thoughts with which you struggle and he is able to bring peace.

2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV)  For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Gracious Heavenly Father,

There are many who struggle with issues of the past—unkind words, hateful deeds or responses, and for some there are broken relationships. Bring peace of mind and help them move forward. Help those who struggle focus on the positive of life in Christ.

In the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, Amen.
