Isaiah 45:5-6 I am the LORD, and there is no other; apart from me there is no God. I will strengthen you, though you have not acknowledged me, so that from the rising of the sun to the place of its setting people may know there is none besides me. I am the LORD, and there is no other.
Prophecy is a difficult topic, especially for someone with limited biblical knowledge like myself. I have heard and read that it is possible this passage in Isaiah, who lived circa BC760-673, might be a prediction of the coming historical events of Cyrus the Great (BC559-530). As I have acknowledged, my understanding is limited and I am dependent upon the many notable scholars who are able to discern the depth of this passage.
Yet I do understand this: The Lord God Almighty is the only true God, and there is no other god who exists as equal. He alone is the Creator of all that exists. He alone provides the strength and power we need to keep going when it’s hard to take another step. He alone provides the comfort we need when loss of family and friends can seem to overwhelm us.
The tragedy is that all too often we turn aside to other sources of strength and comfort. All too often we place other priorities ahead of our trust in our Heavenly Father. All too often we fail to acknowledge the Lord our God in all that we think, say, or do. There are no substitutes for God; He is the LORD, and there is no other.
Gracious Heavenly Father,
All too often we acknowledge you with our lips but have a tendency to live our lives as if you are an afterthought. Forgive us. Draw us back to you and teach us how to place you as the priority in our lives. When the world tempts us with other solutions for life’s ups and downs, remind us that you are the only Constant. You are God, and there is no other.
In the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, Amen.
