One Door and Only One

John 14:6  Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

One of the earliest children’s Sunday School musical rhymes I recall was “One door, and only one, and yet its sides are two. I’m on the inside, on which side are you?”  It is a mistake to believe that there are many ways to enter God’s Kingdom; or worse, that God will not care if we dabble in horoscopes, mediums, fortune tellers and the like as long as we still call ourselves Christians. Dear Readers, make no mistake, there is only one way to enter God’s Kingdom when Christ returns. The only pathway is through Christ. Our primary source of instruction is the truth of God’s Word for which we are provided a written account—The Bible.

Christians need to return to the basics of Christianity. God, our Heavenly Father, is One God, the Lord God Almighty. He created all that exists and he remains in control. One day He will send Christ to return to gather both those who have passed away, and those who are alive and remain, to be with him for eternity in His Kingdom—the heavens and earth purified and made new. Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior, and there is no other way by which we might be saved. It is not of works, nor can it be purchased; salvation comes by grace through faith in Christ alone and must be the personal decision of each individual. There is one Holy Spirit, the very Spirit of God who abides in us and guides our understanding and comforts us in time of need. The true Spirit of God will always acknowledge Christ; no other spirit or source of mysticism is truth. No other source can bring within us the kind of peace that passes understanding in troubled times until Christ returns.

“One door and only one, and yet its sides are two. I’m on the inside, on which side are you?”

Gracious Heavenly Father,

We come to you humbly acknowledging seasons of doubt and times of complacency in our spiritual lives. Forgive us. Guide us to renew our faith in you alone. Cause us to dig deeper into your Word and we ask for guidance from your Holy Spirit to lead the kind of Christian lives that will proclaim your truth to those around us. Give us the courage and boldness to be your witnesses. May all that we think, say, and do be what honors and glorifies You.

In the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, Amen.
