Colossians 3:17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Colossians 3:23-24 Whatever you are doing, work at it with enthusiasm, as to the Lord and not for people, because you know that you will receive your inheritance from the Lord as the reward. Serve the Lord Christ.
Today our little two-letter verb do acts as an adverb to modify how things should be done; that is, we are to do things well—skillfully; in a desirable manner; thoroughly; properly—but above all, in a way that is pleasing to God and brings honor and glory to him. Typically, the cause of our hesitation, resistance, or dare I say “excuse” for failure to do well can be traced back to our own lack of confidence or self-doubt.
Even Gideon used this excuse. Perhaps we do well to be reminded of the Lord’s answer to Gideon:
Judges 6:14 Then the LORD himself turned to him and said, “You have the strength.”
Good advice for us today. The Psalmist also echoes this reminder:
Psalm 105:4 Seek the LORD and the strength he gives.
So the question becomes, if we truly believe the LORD provides the daily strength we need; what then prevents us from doing well? Perhaps what is needed most is our willingness to take that first step forward—for His glory and honor, and not our own.
Today’s Prayer Suggestion: Ask the Lord to help you resolve any hesitations you may have about working with enthusiasm in whatever tasks He calls you. Thank Him for providing the daily strength you need to do things skillfully, thoroughly, properly, enthusiastically—to do well.
