Where You Are Right Now

Dear Readers,

Welcome to Week 5 of our 6-week slow stroll through the events leading up to the birth of Christ and the few days following. We will not cover every aspect of the Advent Story, but rather we will take time to read carefully and perhaps notice a few new things along the way. Our goal is deep thought, reflection, and introspection of our lives as a result of the wondrous birth of our Lord.

Each day we will look at only a few verses, or some days only a single verse. Notice the Who? What? Where? When? and How? that might apply to each passage. You might ask yourself why the text was important then? and why it is important now? My commentary will be noticeably brief; the goal, as noted above, is personal thought, reflection and introspection. Blessings to you as we journey through the Advent Season together.

Week 5/Day 4, Thursday

Luke 2:22  When the time came for the purification rites required by the Law of Moses, Joseph and Mary took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord…

From Nazareth of Galilee to Bethlehem in Judea, over to Jerusalem, an urgent escape to Egypt, and a return trip to Nazareth—these are a few of the trips Joseph and his family traveled. I think in today’s world of all our service men and women who must relocate frequently to fulfill their duty orders.  There are also other jobs which require families to relocate and I am reminded of the words from the chorus of an old hymn (Charles Gabriel, 1856-1932):

I’ll go where you want me to go, dear Lord, Over mountain, or plain, or sea; I’ll say what you want me to say, dear Lord, I’ll be what you want me to be.

Prayer Suggestion:  Ask God to give you a willing heart to be useful for him today, in the place where you are right now. Ask for eyes that are open to the possibilities and opportunities to serve Him. Thank God for his watch care over you no matter where you travel.
