Your Choices Determine God's Response

Dear Readers:

In the past I have quoted scripture from the New International Version (NIV) and from the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible. This year, I will be trying out something new and will use the New English Translation (NET) version of the Bible as a standard for Write From My Heart devotionals. Once again, all scripture texts quoted will be NET unless otherwise noted. It is my hope that NET will provide the modern language preferred by most folk while still maintaining the true intent of scriptural interpretation from the original text.  It is important to me not to rely on popular paraphrases available today, but rather to maintain the integrity of scriptures through the use of  authorized translations. Thank you for your continued readership support.

This notice will be posted for the entire first week of transition from NIV to NET.

Romans 2:6-8  6He will reward each one according to his works: 7eternal life to those who by perseverance in good works seek glory and honor and immortality, 8but wrath and anger to those who live in selfish ambition and do not obey the truth but follow unrighteousness.

Verses 6 and 7 are often used for devotionals while verse 8 is often conveniently left out. We must take the Scriptures as a whole and not just the parts we favor. We do have a choice. And what we choose will determine God’s response. Choose God’s response of eternal life through faith in Christ and by choosing to persevere in doing good. You are not responsible for the choices others make; you are responsible for your own choices.

Colossians 3:23-25  23Whatever you are doing, work at it with enthusiasm, as to the Lord and not for people, 24because you know that you will receive your inheritance from the Lord as the reward. Serve the Lord Christ. 25For the one who does wrong will be repaid for his wrong, and there are no exceptions.

1 Thessalonians 5:15  See that no one pays back evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good for one another and for all.

Hebrews 10:24-25  24And let us take thought of how to spur one another on to love and good works, 25not abandoning our own meetings, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging each other, and even more so because you see the day drawing near.

Today’s Prayer Suggestion: Ask your Heavenly Father for courage to persevere in doing what is right. Ask Him to help you notice opportunities to do good and for the willingness to respond promptly to His urging.
