Dear Readers,
Welcome to Week 6, the final week of our 6-week slow stroll through the events leading up to the birth of Christ and the few days following. We will not cover every aspect of the Advent Story, but rather we will take time to read carefully and perhaps notice a few new things along the way. Our goal is deep thought, reflection, and introspection of our lives as a result of the wondrous birth of our Lord.
Each day we will look at only a few verses, or some days only a single verse. Notice the Who? What? Where? When? and How? that might apply to each passage. You might ask yourself why the text was important then? and why it is important now? My commentary will be noticeably brief; the goal, as noted above, is personal thought, reflection and introspection. Blessings to you as we journey through the Advent Season together.
Week 6/Day 4, Thursday
Luke 2:39 When Joseph and Mary had done everything required by the Law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee to their own town of Nazareth.
Joseph and Mary had done everything required of them according to the Law of the Lord. They had traveled hundreds of miles back and forth from cities for census, the birth of Jesus, religious traditions, even an escape to Egypt from those who sought to do evil. Now all was accomplished according to God’s plan and they returned to their own town of Nazareth.
There must have been moments of questions and concerns along the way, moments that perhaps caused doubts or anxiety. Yet Joseph and Mary knew what they were to do, and they did everything required of them. The first sight of their hometown must have given them a huge sigh of relief. Their lives were changed forever and even though the years to come would bring many challenges, Joseph and Mary knew the value of trusting God for his wisdom, strength, and guidance.
The promise of God for those who accept salvation through Jesus is eternal life in God’s Kingdom on that day when Christ returns to gather the faithful ones. Only then will we be Home at Last. Until that day, let us remain faithful.
Prayer Suggestion: Thank God for his faithfulness to you. Pray that you remain faithful to Him.
