Dear Readers,
Welcome to Week 5 of our 6-week slow stroll through the events leading up to the birth of Christ and the few days following. We will not cover every aspect of the Advent Story, but rather we will take time to read carefully and perhaps notice a few new things along the way. Our goal is deep thought, reflection, and introspection of our lives as a result of the wondrous birth of our Lord.
Each day we will look at only a few verses, or some days only a single verse. Notice the Who? What? Where? When? and How? that might apply to each passage. You might ask yourself why the text was important then? and why it is important now? My commentary will be noticeably brief; the goal, as noted above, is personal thought, reflection and introspection. Blessings to you as we journey through the Advent Season together.
Week 5/Day 3, Wednesday
Luke 2:21 On the eighth day, when it was time to circumcise the child, he was named Jesus, the name the angel had given him before he was conceived.
Instructions had been given by the Lord’s angelic messenger to both Mary and to Joseph that this child’s name would be Jesus, Savior. It is the name God selected for His Son who was begotten of Him and not created. The name for this child was selected by God for a purpose. This child would be the Savior so needed by a tainted and sin-marred world. The hope of all and of all generations to come.
Romans 3:22 This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe.
Romans 10:13 Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
Prayer Suggestion: Thank God for his plan of salvation given to us through his only begotten Son, Jesus, our Savior.
