MERCIFUL full of compassion, sympathetic of others’ distress with a desire to alleviate it

 

Nehemiah 9:29-30 (excerpts) and vs. 31 (NIV) …they became arrogant and disobeyed your commands … they sinned against your ordinances …they turned their backs on you, became stiff-necked and refused to listen … they paid no attention … (vs. 31) But in your great mercy you did not put an end to them or abandon them, for you are a gracious and merciful God.

 

Ponder this: The moment mankind took his eyes off the Creator and turn his focus toward that which was created, sin forever marred God’s wonderful creation. Yet no matter how arrogant, disobedient, sinful, or stubborn mankind grows, God remains gracious and merciful. God sees our distress and desires to alleviate it. Through the sacrifice of his only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, we have opportunity for salvation. It is a free gift from our compassionate God to all who will believe.
